Good afternoon Discovery family. I hope that everyone had a wonderful weekend. Below are the announcements for the upcoming week. Students, keep in mind our Keep the World Beautiful norm. The cafeteria and gym were extremely messy after lunch this past week. Please be sure to clean up after yourselves. Beta Club is selling raffle tickets for $5 each in the cafeteria during lunch. Participants will have the opportunity to win a $25 gift card. Proceeds will go to support teachers in purchasing materials for their classes. Student Senate will be selling tickets this week in the cafeteria during lunch for the Winter Formal which will be held on Friday January 26th 6:00-9:00. Tickets are $5 each. All earnings will go to support Ms. Nicholson and her family as they battle a tough situation. DHS will be hosting an Open House for all prospective students and their parents on Thursday January 25th 5:30-6:30. Please encourage any rising 9th grader, who may be interested in attending DHS, to come for this important information session. Our Science Olympiad team will be traveling to Virginia Tech for their first competition of the season on Saturday January 27th. Best of luck to these students!! Our next ACT Prep session will be held on Saturday February 3rd for any interested junior. Be on the lookout for a sign up sheet from Mr. Whitener. The Lunch and Learn for freshmen and their parents and guardians will be on January 19th from 11:15 to 12:15 in our media center, and all freshmen and their parents are encouraged to attend. Parents may bring an outside lunch for their students on that day. Students may still purchase lunch in the cafeteria and bring it to the media center, or they may eat in the cafeteria after the presentation. We will talk about AP classes, SAT and ACT testing, preparing for eventual college applications, being successful in high school, and lots more. I hope you can join us. Feel free to email me with any questions. Freshmen will attend this event even if their parents cannot, but we hope to have as many parents and guardians there as possible.

If you know of any 8th graders who are interested in DHS, please have them apply. Report cards will go out later this week. We are waiting for some external grades to be submitted. There will be a Freshmen Lunch and Learn on Friday 11:15-12:15. Freshmen parents should plan to attend this important information session led by Ms. Arditti. Juniors, we will host an ACT Prep session on Saturday 9-12 in our cafeteria. Juniors, who plan to attend this session, should complete the google form they received via email on Thursday. Good evening, Discovery Family! Newton-Conover City Schools will operate on a 2-hour delay for students and staff on Wednesday, January 10, 2024. Newton-Conover Middle School students can enter the building starting at 9:10 a.m. School officially starts at 9:40 a.m. Parents, do not drop your students off before 9:10 a.m. Students who ride the bus should adjust the time to report to their bus stop by two hours. 11 Period/1st Period 9:40-10:40 21 Period/2nd Period 10:45-11:45 3rd Period 11:50-1:45 Lunch 11:50-12:30 4th Period 1:50-2:50 Again, Newton-Conover City Schools will operate on a 2-hour delay for students and staff on Wednesday, January 10, 2024.
